&*%!$ Spammers!
The one thing guarenteed to get my blood pressure rising - spammers!
Email spammers I've learnt to cope with - most of my spam goes into particular accounts.. I check them occasionally, and delete the messages without really looking. I know they're either offering to extend the length of a body part I don't have, or they're going to tell me that I need to click the nice link, and provide my log in details for my bank/paypal/ebay etc. Yea.. I'm not that dumb!
The scum of the earth to me are the individuals who spam forums. For those who haven't experienced this, most forums have a 'memberlist' of some sort, and that list often shows the members websites, if they add it. This provides a link back to their site, and it's always a good thing to get decent sites linking back to you.
So, my forums get a constant influx of new members. Are they interested in the topic matter? No, they want a link back to their search site or porn site. NOT the sort of thing I want showing up on my memberlist!
In my case, they don't even gain from it. My older forums I check at least once a day, and with my most recent one, I'm on there throughout the day, and I know pretty quickly if I get a new member.. and they get checked out. Some links get removed, but usually the offending spammer gets their account deleted too.
So, their link is gone, and they've achieved nothing. Oh, actually, they have.. they've wasted a part of my day, and they've increased my blood pressure!
Yet another fun part of owning a forum!

I HATE those folks! There's just no point to what they do. And I hate those people who join groups & post loads of highly inappropriate pictures etc directly onto the group too, wth no thought as to the age of some of the members (honestly, with the likes of a book group there could well be kids there - you never know!). Fokls like that need to be strung up.
However if you put yourself out into the public domain then you have to expect to deal with the public!
I don't mind dealing with the 'public' - 2 of my forums are health related, and so I do so all the time.
What I don't apprecitae are people constantly adding porn links, and the fact that I have to waste my time removing them.. time that could be spent helping the people on my forums!
Dealing with "the public" is one thing...dealing with vermin is quite another. My email inbox is NOT public...yet these Richard Craniums obviously have bought my name from somewhere and have sent me the same types of crap that Michelle gets. Not only is it annoying and time consuming, but it's offensive to even read the subject lines of some of these messages.
Isn't it a bit like saying " I can't stand funerals"....who does?
Nobody likes that junk . Not eveerybody is as nice as we are!
Anon--
How can you possibly compare spammers to funerals? Funerals are a social ritual to say goodbye to a loved one. We may not like them, but they are a necessary part of the grieving process.
Spammers however are NOT necessary, they are like lice or fleas, they inflict themselves on the unsuspecting and are damned difficult to get rid of.
And why do you choose not to identify yourself? C'mon, I dare ya!!!
ooooohh, not quite what I meant, but fair point
